We’re excited to announce Lieutenant General John E. Shaw, USSF (Ret) for our chapter’s 2024 General James V. Hartinger Award.
The Hartinger Award has been given every year since 1984 for outstanding achievement in the military space mission of the United States. This prestigious award is named for General James V. Hartinger, the first recipient, the first Commander of US Air Force Space Command, and a true pioneer who saw the potential of a military presence in space.
In the forty years since, the list of recipients of the Hartinger Award has swelled with visionaries and leaders who have secured freedom for the nation—and the planet—in the space domain.
Lt Gen Shaw recently retired as the Deputy Commander of US Space Command. Prior to that, he was dual-hatted as the Commander, Combined Forces Space Component Command, U.S. Space Command, and Deputy Commander, Space Operations Command, U.S. Space Force, Vandenberg SFB, California. He also served as the Deputy Commander of Air Force Space Command, United States Air Force. Shaw is a 1990 graduate of the US Air Force Academy.
Lt Gen Shaw will accept the award in person at the NDIA-RMC’s 41st Annual Rocky Mountain Ball, August 16, 2024.
Congratulations, Lt Gen Shaw! Save the date now and make plans to celebrate his achievement with the rest of the Rocky Mountain Defense Community in August.
